The function of slurry pump is to transport slurry. Due to the large amount of solid particles in the medium it transports, the wear of slurry pump is very serious. Therefore, when choosing slurry pump, it is necessary to ensure the hydraulic characteristics of slurry pump, fully consider the actual situation of the pump, select reasonable design parameters, and maximize the service life of the pump. When choosing a slurry pump, there are three aspects that we have to consider, namely hydraulic design, material selection, and structural design.
1. Consider from the perspective of hydraulic design
Most of the slurry transported by the slurry pump contains solid particles, and there is basically no uniform slurry in actual working conditions. During operation, the trajectory of the solid content will always deviate from the streamline of the carrier and cause certain impact on the flow components, resulting in wear. Therefore, the first consideration in design is to choose excellent hydraulic models, such as two-phase flow, binary flow, and other advanced theories. The blade curve designed accordingly is more in line with the flow state of the slurry. Reduced impact and hydraulic losses, effectively reducing wear and tear.

According to the properties of the slurry transported by the slurry pump, spiral type, quasi spiral type, and annular type pressure chambers can be selected in the design of the slurry pump pressure chamber. Due to the characteristics of symmetrical structure, simplicity, low particle blockage, and easy manufacturing of the annular pressure chamber, this form was initially chosen for design.
When the slurry pump ns<100, the annular pressure chamber can be designed to be completely concentric; When the slurry pump ns is between 100 and 150, the annular pressure chamber can be designed as semi concentric.
2. Consider the selection of materials for slurry pumps
After the design of the slurry pump is completed, no matter how good the structural design is, if the material selection is improper, it is also difficult to achieve long-term stable operation on site. Therefore, the selection of materials is particularly important. When selecting materials, it is necessary to consider the characteristics of the medium, the composition of solid particles, and the properties of the material in order to choose a more suitable material. Especially for the lining of slurry pumps, the currently mature wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant lining component is wear-resistant rubber. By utilizing its high elasticity and strong wear resistance, it can reduce the impact and wear of large particles on the flow passage components. It is precisely because of the excellent internal lining that the service life of the lining slurry pump is 2-4 times that of ordinary alloy pumps.
3. Consider from the perspective of structural design
In order to extend the service life of the slurry pump, a double shell or single shell structure can be designed according to the specific characteristics of the slurry type. For propellers with high concentration of slurry or coarse solid particle size, a dual bright structure should be selected in the design. However, it should be noted that the design should facilitate disassembly, otherwise, it is still recommended to use a pump with a single shell structure.
The above three points are the key considerations when choosing a slurry pump. Choosing the correct slurry pump is a prerequisite for ensuring smooth slurry transportation operations, and we hope to receive sufficient attention.
