How To Classify And Select Agricultural Water Pumps For Farmland Irrigation

Jan 16, 2025

How to classify and select agricultural water pumps for farmland irrigation:
Agriculture cannot do without water, so it cannot do without pumps. Different regions have different choices, and there are three main types of agricultural water pumps to choose from: mixed flow pumps, centrifugal pumps, and submersible pumps.
Agricultural mixed flow pump
The flow rate and head of a mixed flow pump are between those of a centrifugal pump and an axial flow pump. Small size, light weight, high efficiency, and wide high-efficiency zone, simple structure, easy to use, and easy to maintain. The conveying medium is clear water or similar to clear water, suitable for agricultural irrigation and industrial water supply and drainage.
Mixed flow pump is a type of pump between centrifugal pump and axial flow pump, with a large water output but low head, suitable for areas with abundant surface water sources in the south. Mixed flow pumps can be powered by electric motors or diesel engines.
Multiple forms of mixed flow pumps (such as vertical, mechanical seals, special materials, etc.) can also be developed according to user requirements, and users can change the speed of the water pump within a certain range according to specific usage requirements.
Agricultural centrifugal pump
Centrifugal pumps work by utilizing the rotation of impellers to cause centrifugal motion in water. There are many models to choose from, and the range of flow and head options is also wide, making it a widely used water pump in agriculture. Low lift centrifugal pumps can be selected in plain areas, moderate lift pumps can be selected in hilly areas, and multi-stage centrifugal pumps with higher lift pumps can be used in high-altitude areas. Users need to make purchases based on local conditions, water sources, and lifting heights.
Agricultural submersible pump
Submersible pump is suitable for pumping water from deep water wells: mainly used for irrigation in farmland and high-altitude mountainous areas, and mainly used in plain areas such as North China where surface water is scarce.
1. The submersible pump motor and water pump are integrated and operate safely and reliably underwater.
2. There are no special requirements for well pipes and lifting pipes (i.e. steel pipe wells, ash pipe wells, soil wells, etc. can all be used; under pressure permission, steel pipes, rubber hoses, plastic pipes, etc. can be used as lifting pipes).
3. Easy to install, use, and maintain, with a small footprint and no need to build a pump room.
4. Simple structure, saving raw materials.
5. The suitability of the operating conditions and proper management of submersible electric pumps are directly related to their service life.
After the customer determines the type of agricultural water pump, they should consider its economic performance, especially paying attention to the selection of the pump's head, flow rate, and supporting power. It must be noted that the head indicated on the water pump label (total head) is different from the actual head of the water outlet during use, as there will be some resistance loss when the water flows through the water supply pipe and near the pipeline. So, the actual head is generally 10% -20% lower than the total head, and the water output is correspondingly reduced. Therefore, in actual use, it can only be estimated based on 80% to 90% of the head and flow rate indicated on the label. The selection of the matching power for the water pump can be based on the power indicated on the label. In order to make the water pump start quickly and use safely, the power of the power machine can also be slightly higher than the required power of the water pump, generally about 10% higher; If there is already power, when selecting a water pump, you can choose a water pump that matches the power of the power machine.
