How To Solve The Problems That Occur During The Operation Of Water Pumps With Ultra-high Head

Jan 31, 2025

(1) Adjust the blade installation angle
Adjusting the blade installation angle to a certain extent expands the range of use of the pump. When the pump head increases, the blade installation angle can be reduced, and the water output can be appropriately reduced to meet the requirements of normal operation of the pump under high head conditions.

(2) Replace the pump
If adjusting the blade angle to the minimum still cannot meet the long-term operation requirements of high head, it may be considered to replace it with a high head water pump.
Replacing the water pump is usually a relatively convenient method, but for large and medium-sized diesel engine pumps, factors such as unit matching and flow channel matching need to be considered, so the engineering investment is relatively large and the equipment cost of the unit is high. In addition, at the same flow rate, due to the high head of the pump, the possibility of pump cavitation and hydraulic vibration increases, especially the hydraulic coordination problem between the inlet and outlet channels often becomes the main contradiction for pump replacement. Therefore, using pump replacement on the basis of the original pump station hydraulic foundation to solve the problem of high head is not only costly, but also technically complex, so it is generally only suitable for small and medium-sized axial flow pump stations.
In addition, when replacing the pump, it is not only necessary to consider the safe operation of the pump station at the highest head, but also to strive for a higher average efficiency of the pump station over many years of operation. For pump stations with a significant difference between the highest head and the average head, this should be fully considered.
