Key Points For Selecting Impeller Of Self-priming Pump

Sep 09, 2024

When selecting the impeller of a self-priming pump, it is necessary to comprehensively consider factors such as material, type, hydraulic design, installation location, anti clogging ability, performance parameters, and replacement and maintenance to ensure the efficient operation and long-term stability of the pump.
When choosing the impeller of a self-priming pump, the following are some important considerations:
1. Material selection: The impeller of a self-priming pump is usually made of QT400-18 material, which has good wear resistance and impact resistance. If corrosive media need to be transported, stainless steel impellers can be selected to provide better corrosion resistance.
2. Impeller type: Self priming pumps generally use semi open impellers because this type of impeller is suitable for extracting liquids containing certain particles or debris, while closed impellers are suitable for high head water pumps, used for extracting clean liquids without debris and particles. Therefore, when choosing an impeller, it is necessary to determine which type of impeller to use based on the properties of the conveying medium.

3. Hydraulic design: The hydraulic design of the self-priming pump is unique, with the impeller located in a separate impeller chamber and connected to the pressure chamber. This design enables the generation of strong axial eddy currents inside the pump when the impeller rotates, resulting in a vacuum at the inlet and a head at the outlet. This design helps to improve the self-priming ability of the pump and its ability to handle solid particles.
4. Installation position: The installation height of the suction port of the unobstructed self-priming pump should not exceed 5 meters, which helps ensure the normal operation of the pump and extend its service life. During installation, it is necessary to ensure that the position of the pump meets the design requirements to avoid affecting the performance of the pump.
5. Anti clogging ability: As self-priming pumps are often used to transport media containing solid particles, the design of the impeller needs to have strong anti clogging ability. Open or semi open impellers, due to their open design, can better handle fluids containing impurities and reduce the risk of blockage.
6. Performance parameters: When selecting an impeller, it is also necessary to consider performance parameters such as pump flow rate and head to ensure that the selected impeller can meet the needs of practical applications.
7. Replacement and maintenance: Considering that impellers are vulnerable parts, the convenience of replacement and maintenance costs should also be taken into account when selecting impellers.
