What Are The Main Components Of Submersible Pump Parts - Seals

Nov 06, 2024

In order to prevent sediment or water from entering the electric motor, submersible pumps require overall sealing, which is divided into static sealing and dynamic sealing. Dynamic sealing is mainly caused by the rotating shaft. The static seal of the main components of submersible pumps is often an "O" - shaped seal ring seal, and the lead out part of the cable is also a static seal, commonly using a screw structure. The dynamic seal often uses integral sealing discs, single end mechanical seals, double end mechanical seals, labyrinth seals, skeleton oil seals, impeller back blades, secondary impellers, etc. Depending on the medium conditions, the friction pair materials for mechanical seals can be selected from graphite, copper foil, polytetrafluoroethylene, ceramics, hard alloys, etc.

Choosing the appropriate sealing method is crucial in the practical application of submersible pumps. For media containing a large amount of particulate impurities, labyrinth seals and secondary impeller seals are often given priority due to their simple structure and wear resistance. Maze seals design complex flow channels to allow the medium to change direction multiple times during the flow process, thereby slowing down the flow rate, reducing pressure, and effectively preventing medium leakage. The secondary impeller utilizes the pressure difference generated by centrifugal force to form a liquid barrier inside the sealing chamber, further enhancing the sealing effect.
For clean water or less corrosive media, double end mechanical seals are the best choice due to their high reliability and long service life. This sealing method forms an extremely thin liquid film by tightly fitting two opposing end faces, which can prevent medium leakage and protect the shaft from corrosion. Especially under harsh working conditions of high temperature and high pressure, the double end mechanical seal exhibits excellent performance.
In addition, with the advancement of materials science, new sealing materials such as nanocomposites and high-performance ceramics are gradually being applied in the sealing system of submersible pumps. These materials not only have excellent wear resistance and corrosion resistance, but also significantly improve the strength and stability of seals, providing strong guarantees for the efficient operation of submersible pumps.
In summary, the sealing technology of submersible pumps is a comprehensive issue involving multiple disciplines and fields. By selecting appropriate sealing methods and using advanced materials, the efficiency and reliability of submersible pumps can be significantly improved, and the service life of equipment can be extended.
