What Are The Solutions To The Occurrence Of Fire Fighring Pumps

May 29, 2025

The fire pump is one of the most important equipment in fire protection facilities. So, what problems may occur with the fire pump during daily inspection and testing of fire protection facilities? Let's take a look at the solutions to several types of faults in fire pumps.
Problem 1: Severe vibration of fire pump
1. Is the fire pump not concentric with the motor shaft?
Adjust and align with the axis of the fire pump and motor.
2. Is the fire pump shaft bent?
Remove the straightening or replace it with a new one.
3. Unbalanced impeller?
Remove and find balance.
Problem 2: The fire pump cannot extract liquid
1. Is the extrusion pipeline too thin and the pipeline loss too large?
Replace with a suitable extrusion pipeline.
2. Does the head exceed the design head?
Re select the fire pump.
3. Is there no exhaust gas in the suction pipe or fire pump?
Inspect the suction pipeline and drain the gas.
4. Is the suction height exceeding the allowable range?
Allow for the reinstallation of the fire pump by raising the suction height.
5. Transporting hot and volatile media?
Low suction range or using reverse flow installation.
Did you turn in the opposite direction?
Correct the turn.
7. No infusion fluid?
Recharge the fire pump.
8. Is the flow path of the suction pipe, outlet pipe, or fire pump blocked?
Remove debris.
Problem 3: Severe mechanical seal leakage
Is the fixing screw loose, causing the spring to lose its function?
Tighten the screws or readjust the spring.
2. Insufficient spring pressure?
Adjust the compression of the spring or replace the spring.
3. Is the static ring assembly skewed?
Reinstall the static ring for the fire pump.
4. Corrosion, wear or scratches on the end face of the dynamic or static ring?
Repair or replace the damaged dynamic and static rings.
5. The machining accuracy and smoothness of the shaft sleeve are insufficient, which affects the axial movement of the moving ring?
Replace the shaft sleeve with qualified machining accuracy.
6. Does impurity, foreign object or medium crystallization affect the axial movement of the moving ring or support between the end faces of the moving and stationary rings?
Remove impurities, foreign objects, and crystals, and thoroughly clean the sealing components.
7. Is the assembly of the dynamic sealing ring inclined or corroded and deformed? Reinstall or replace the dynamic ring seal for the fire pump.
Problem 4: Overheating of the motor for the fire pump
Is the packing gland pressed too tightly or the mechanical seal spring adjusted too tightly?
Adjust the compression amount of the spring for the gland or mechanical seal again.
2. Does the usage range (flow rate, head) exceed the design requirements of the fire pump?
Select the appropriate motor according to the series spectrum.
3. Poor assembly quality of the fire pump, with friction or the motor not being concentric with the fire pump shaft?
Check the assembly quality and eliminate assembly faults.
4. Does the medium density exceed the configuration of the fire pump motor?
Configure appropriate motors for fire pumps.
Problem 5: Overheating of fire pump bearings
1. Is the fire pump not concentric with the motor shaft?
Adjust and align with the axis of the fire pump and motor.
2. Is there no or insufficient lubricating oil (grease)?
Add lubricating oil (grease) to the required standard.
3. Bearing damage?
Replace the bearings for the fire pump.
Problem 6: Insufficient head of fire pump
1. Insufficient rotational speed?
Check the current and restore the speed.
2. Is the impeller severely corroded?
Replace the impeller with a new one.
3. Is the gap between the semi open impeller and the fire pump cover too large?
Reduce the gap.
4. Does the performance of the fire pump fail to meet the design requirements?
Replace the fire pump with one that meets the design requirements.
Problem 7: Serious leakage of packing seal
1. Poor packing quality and poor sealing performance?
Replace the filling material that meets the requirements.
2. Is the shaft sleeve worn too much?
Replace the shaft sleeve.
3. Are the packing sizes uneven or severely worn?
Replace the packing with a uniform model.
4. Is the packing too loose?
Tighten the packing gland to the appropriate level.
5. Is the filling device not good?
Adjust the filling overlap so that it is staggered by a certain angle and not in the same direction.
Problem 8: Insufficient flow of fire pump
1. Is the sealing ring severely worn or corroded?
Replace the sealing ring with a new one.
2. Is the gap between the semi open impeller and the fire pump cover too large?
Reduce the gap.
3. Is the suction pipe too thin or blocked by debris? change
Suitable pipeline, remove debris.
4. Is the impeller severely worn or corroded?
Replace the impeller with a new one.
5. The depth of immersion of the suction pipe is not enough, and there is air sucked into the fire pump?
Increase the immersion depth of the suction pipe. Reinstall the static ring for the fire pump.
