Super Recommended Collection, Common Faults And Maintenance Methods Of Water Pumps

Aug 20, 2024

As a daily pressurized water supply equipment, the water pump maintains pressure in the water supply network in real time to ensure daily water supply for daily life. However, as a mechanical equipment, frequent start-up and operation within 24 hours a day will result in varying degrees of wear and tear on bearings, seals, and other worn parts. Therefore, each water pump and accessory has a certain service life. If used reasonably and maintained in a timely manner, the service life of the water pump will be greatly extended. So today we will discuss the common faults and solutions of water pumps.
Phenomenon 1: Mechanical seal leakage
Machine seal leakage is a common fault phenomenon, and there are many reasons for leakage, such as lack of water, dry grinding, and high sediment content in the pumping medium, which can cause seal wear and leakage. It is worth mentioning that the sealing method of water pumps can be roughly divided into two types: packing type and mechanical type.
Packing type is commonly used for transport pumps with large amounts of cold water and sediment. It is normal for slight water leakage to occur during use of this sealing method, so there is no need to worry too much. In addition, this type of seal requires new packing to be pressed in at regular intervals, otherwise the water leakage situation will become more and more serious.
Mechanical sealing is a commonly used sealing method for water pumps nowadays. Compared with packing sealing, mechanical sealing has the advantages of high sealing degree, low friction, long service life, and is suitable for various occasions. The disadvantage is that the price is slightly higher, and installation and maintenance require certain technical skills, etc.
The reason for water leakage caused by damaged machine seals:
1. Improper installation and worn-out machine seal;
2. There is no water at the inlet, and the water pump is running dry, causing damage to the mechanical seal due to dry abrasion;
3. The water pump has not been running for a long time, without maintenance, and was started directly without inspection before use.
If the machine seal is damaged and leaks water, it is necessary to shut down the machine in a timely manner, activate the backup pump, and contact the manufacturer for repair. It is not allowed to continue operating under the condition of water leakage.
Phenomenon 2: Abnormal noise from the water pump
The reasons for the abnormal noise of the water pump are:
1. The water pump bearings are severely worn;
2. Impeller friction pump casing;
3. Axis concentricity decreases, resulting in unbalanced operation;
4. The wind cover is deformed, and the wind blades collide with the wind cover;
The sound of different faults is also different, some are sharp whistling sounds, some are rattling sounds. If the water pump makes abnormal noises, it should be stopped for inspection. After dismantling, in addition to repairing the faulty parts, other parts also need to be inspected and maintained, such as bearing lubrication maintenance.
If the water pump is not used for a long time, it also needs to be disassembled and maintained regularly to avoid rusting or aging of some parts that may affect normal use. Before starting a water pump that has not been started for a long time, it is necessary to manually rotate the rotor to see if it is difficult to turn. If it is difficult to turn, the machine needs to be disassembled and checked for rust, aging, and adhesion of the accessories.
Phenomenon 3: Motor temperature is too high
The operation of the water pump generates work, and the motor will heat up. As long as the temperature is not too high, there is no problem within the normal range. If you find that the motor is severely hot and cannot be touched by your hands, you need to stop the machine and check.
The causes of high temperature in the motor are:
1. Damaged water pump bearings increase friction. If the bearings are completely stuck, it can cause excessive current and burn out the motor;
2. The water pump has been in the starting state for a long time and cannot enter normal operation, causing excessive current. If there is overcurrent protection, the overcurrent protection device should be activated;
3. The selection of pump flow and head parameters is too large;
4. The water pump is installed outdoors and exposed to direct sunlight;
Phenomenon 4: Insufficient flow pressure
There are several common problems with decreasing flow pressure:
1. The water pump is reversing. This situation usually occurs during the water test of a new pump, but only two of the motor terminal terminals need to be debugged.
2. The water pump is not venting. Before the first use and after the first water test of the new pump, exhaust work is required. If there is no exhaust, there will be air in the pump body, which will affect the efficiency of the water pump.
3. Leakage occurs on the pump body or pipeline.
4. The impeller is severely worn, with cracks and wear.
